Nine years of sustained growth attests to Artbarn’s ability to provide a much-needed service to the community. Our goal is to continue reaching out to new audiences, expanding popular programs and offering new classes. It’s our goal to expand by:
- Increasing community service components by taking performances to local hospitals, libraries, nursing homes, daycare centers and housing projects
- Increase outreach to low-income students
- Continue to collaborate with other area arts organizations and educational institutions
- Continue to develop our intergenerational theater programming
- Add summer programming and increase programs available during school vacation weeks
- Increase the number of children that can be accommodated in the most popular programs
In addition, Artbarn needs room to grow. Classroom and performance space currently is rented in the educational building of Temple Sinai in Coolidge Corner. Artbarn’s long-term goal is to find a more permanent facility with approximately 5,000 square feet of space. This facility will include a 350-seat performance space with dance studios, technical classrooms and storage space for sets, costumes and equipment. The building would either be leased on a long-term basis or could be purchased, depending upon the acquisition price and financial feasibility. The site must meet the stated space requirements, offer an identity as an art center be accessible for children to attend after school, and offer a safe pick-up and drop-off location for parents who drive their children to classes.
