IS GOLDILOCKS GUILTY OF BREAKING AND ENTERING?
COME TO ARTBARN’S MARCH 31 GALA EVENT AND FIND OUT!
Brookline’s Theater Arts Program’s Annual “Funraiser” Features Local Movers And Shakers In A Hilarious Interpretation Of “The Trial Of Goldilocks”
March 1, 2007 (Brookline, MA) – Brookline’s business leaders and politicians will showcase their talents and senses of humor in a rollicking interpretation of the play, The Trial Of Goldilocks at Artbarn Community Theater’s annual “fun-raising” event on March 31. Among the actors: Wainwright Bank’s Ken Jaffe as Golda Lox, Brookline selectman Bobby Allen as the defense attorney, realtor Chobee Hoy as the Masterpiece Theater hostess and business owner Elias Audy as Papa Bear. The annual gala event features the play, with original music, which seeks to answer the age-old question: Is Goldilocks guilty of breaking and entering into the Three Bears’ house? It also includes a silent auction, “A Taste of Brookline,” featuring local restaurants, and dancing to the band “Grownup Noise.” The event will be held at the Hellenic College’s Maliotis Cultural Center at 50 Goddard Ave., Brookline. “This is a wonderful way to support Artbarn, which is such a great organization and does such great, creative work, said Chobee Hoy, owner of Chobee Hoy Associates in Brookline Village. “But it’s also lots of fun. It gives you a chance to ham it up, and work with interesting people. It’s going to be a great show.” For eight years, Artbarn, an after-school theater arts program, has given more than 1500 students of all ages a safe and creative environment to explore the theater arts. The organization has never turned away a child, providing scholarships for those in need. The fundraiser is intended to help continue the worthy tradition. Running a theater arts organization of Artbarn’s high quality takes funding from many sources. Only 60% of expenses are covered by tuition. The rest comes from generous donors, charitable grants and fundraising. Artbarn plans to secure its future in Brookline’s arts community by raising $150,000 during a multi-year campaign. The spring fundraiser is an important step in that direction. “Let’s put the ‘gold’ into Goldilocks!” said executive director Jackie Borck.
Tickets are $75 in advance. Call 617-975-0050 or e-mail info@artbarn.org for tickets, which will be held at the door on the night of the event.

“Stepping UP” is Stepping Closer
Artbarn Community Theater is proud to announce their third season of “Out of the Box Productions” which brings theater to all eight elementary schools in Brookline. “Out of the Box Productions” offers in-house productions designed to integrate theater arts with the K-6 curriculum. Using storytelling, role-play, improvisation, and musical comedy, this program challenges the student actors and their young audiences to deal with important issues. This year our original musical “Stepping UP” looks at the silent witness role in bullying situations.
“Stepping UP” asks the hard questions:
Who is the bully? Could it be one of us?
Why should I care? How can I make a difference?
What if I don’t want to get into trouble?
The play focuses on a rather unique character, Rewind, and his magical, remote control that has the power to stop and rewind time. Using Rewind’s controller, the actors have the opportunity to experiment and replay difficult situations. They get to see what happens with the choices they make as they try out several different outcomes.
Which choice is the right one? Through three separate situations the actors not only learn how to “Step UP” and help someone but also to “Step IN” to other people’s shoes and “Step OUT” of their own fear to let their voices be heard.
We hope that “Stepping UP” not only entertains young audiences but also challenges them to think about their role when they experience a bully in the school-yard. It is our goal to give children the social skills and language they need to help others in trouble and make their world a safer place.
