Out of the Box Productions: The Sportsmanship Hall of Fame
This is our fourth consecutive year sending Out of the Box Productions into
all eight Brookline elementary schools. The Out of the Box touring
performances look at issues that are relevant in young lives today and
provide language for social situations that prove difficult for students.
Our double-cast 3rd- 6th grade actors discuss important themes during the
"talk back" sessions after each show. We provide a curriculum guide so that
teachers can extend the lesson back in their classrooms.
"Sportsmanship Hall of Fame" is the latest in our Out of the Box series.
Previous shows were:
"Get out the Vote," which dealt with voter apathy.
"Stepping UP," which helped kids find the language to stand up tobullying, teasing and other hurtful behavior.
"Brookline 300," which celebrated Brookline's 300th birthday and taught
young people about Brookline's history.
"Sportsmanship Hall of Fame" poses some difficult and thought-provoking
questions:
Can we compete without feeling like losers? How can we play fairly and aim
for excellence as athletes, coaches, cheerleaders and fans? Whether around
the basketball court, the baseball field, or the tennis court, each scene in
this play examines a difficult negotiation and provides a positive outcome.
We hope it will become an essential tool in helping teachers teach, and
young people learn, about focus, leadership, respect, and fair play.
